Dierks Bentley Tops Country Airplay Chart With BRELAND & HARDY: ‘I Am Proud to Have a Big Old Hit Song With Them’
Dierks Bentley, BRELAND and HARDY‘s “Beers on Me” hops to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart dated April 23. In the week ending April 17, the song, released on Capitol Records Nashville, increased by 8% to 26.1 million in audience, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data.
The trio co-penned the song with Ross Copperman, Luke Dick and Ashley Gorley. Bentley and Copperman co-produced it.
The track marks Bentley’s 18th Country Airplay No. 1 as a recording artist, HARDY’s second and BRELAND’s first. It’s Bentley’s 15th leader as a writer, HARDY’s milestone 10th and BRELAND’s first. Bentley notches his third No. 1 as a producer.
“I’m honored, and this latest one really is special,” Bentley tells Billboard. “‘Beers’ is a true collaboration, both as songwriters and artists. It’s especially meaningful that it’s BRELAND’s first No. 1 as an artist and songwriter. Both he and HARDY bring something new and needed in country music. I am proud to have a big old hit song with them.”
Says BRELAND, “When I first moved to Nashville in August of 2020, I wouldn’t have believed a No. 1 song at country radio would exist in my near future. I’m so grateful to Dierks and HARDY for creating space for me on this song, and for helping make this 10-year town a two-year one. ‘Beers on Me’ is the type of collaboration indicative of where Nashville is heading and just how many styles of country music are viable right now.”
“Beers” is the second single from Bentley’s forthcoming 10th LP, after “Gone” reached No. 2 on Country Airplay last June. He reigns for the first time since “Living” led for a week in September 2019. He first ruled with his debut single, “What Was I Thinkin’,” for a week in September 2003.
HARDY previously topped Country Airplay as a recording artist with “One Beer,” featuring Lauren Alaina and Devin Dawson, led for a week in December 2020. Meanwhile, his current solo single “Give Heaven Some Hell” holds at its No. 13 best on Country Airplay (14 million, up 6%).
BRELAND crowns Country Airplay with his first entry on the chart. He has sent four titles onto the multi-metric Hot Country Songs survey, with “Praise the Lord,” featuring Thomas Rhett, up 23-22, after reaching No. 21. It ascends with 5.1 million streams (up 10%) and 800 downloads sold (up 150%) in the week ending April 14.
Meanwhile, “Beers” pushes 10-7 on Hot Country Songs, after hitting No. 5 in March, with 4.8 million U.S. streams (up 6%) and 8,400 sold.
Sixth at No. 6
Cole Swindell’s fourth LP, Stereotype, debuts at No. 6 on Top Country Albums, becoming his sixth top 10. Released April 8, the set starts with 16,000 equivalent album units earned.
The album is Swindell’s first full-length since All of It, which began at the Top Country Albums summit in September 2018, marking his first No. 1. It followed You Should Be Here, which launched at No. 2 in May 2016, and his self-titled debut, which also opened at No. 2, in March 2014.
Swindell has also released three Down Home Sessions EPs, with two having reached the Top Country Albums top 10: The first installment arrived at its No. 8 peak in December 2014 and the third began at its No. 5 best in November 2016.
Meanwhile, Stereotype‘s current single “Never Say Never,” with Lainey Wilson, rises 3-2 on Hot Country Songs and 5-3 on Country Airplay (22.2 million, up 8%), hitting new highs on each chart. Lead track “Single Saturday Night” dominated Country Airplay for two weeks beginning last July and reached No. 4 on Hot Country Songs.
