Lizzo Takes ‘Time’ to Top Five on Hot R&B Songs Chart

The first taste of Lizzo’s new album era hits the Billboard charts this week as lead single “About Damn Time” debuts at No. 4 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. The track previews the singer/rapper’s forthcoming album, Special, which will arrive on July 15.

“About Damn Time,” released through Nice Life/Atlantic Records, starts with 6.8 million official U.S. streams in the week ending April 21, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data, to secure a No. 4 entrance on the R&B Streaming Songs chart. “Time” also registered 8,000 downloads in the same period, prompting a No. 1 launch on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. There, it becomes her second champ, after “Good as Hell,” which dominated for 21 weeks in 2019-20.

In the radio realm, Lizzo’s newest single stakes a claim to four airplay charts after its first full tracking week for Billboard’s plays-based radio charts. It climbs on Pop Airplay (31-21) and Adult Pop Airplay (38-25) and debuts on Rhythmic Airplay (No. 29) and Adult R&B Airplay (No. 30).

Elsewhere, “Time” begins at No. 13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and at No. 50 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

As mentioned above, “About Damn Time” previews Lizzo’s Special album, set for release on July 15. Notably, the available tracklist on digital retailers suggests that the album will not include her previous single, “Rumors,” featuring Cardi B, which peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 in August.

Special will mark Lizzo’s first album since Cuz I Love You in 2019. The latter debuted at No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 in May, but rose to a No. 4 peak in September after the hit singles “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell” were added to the album’s digital and streaming editions. “Truth,” originally from 2017, rode a second wind from TikTok and an appearance in Netflix’s Something Great film to No. 1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks, while “Good,” a 2016 release, later climbed to No. 3. Thanks to the pair of hits, Cuz I Love You clocked 128 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.
